Rehabilation plan for Coaster Brook Trout
In 1998 Shared Streams contributed to a comprehensive assessment and the creation of a rehabilitation plan for native “coaster” brook trout in the Lake Superior watershed. The plan identified the Salmon Trout River as one of several tributaries of concern that lead to Lake Superior and outlined rehabilitation strategies and other conservation activities on family forestlands.

  • The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Forest Management provides cost-share, educational, and technical forestry services to landowners. Ph: (517) 373-1275.
  • The Partners for Fish & Wildlife program of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service offers technical and financial assistance to landowners for restoration of native habitat types. Ph: (517) 324-5270.
  • The Michigan Department of Natural Resources offers technical and financial assistance to landowners to help them sustainably manage their land through the Forest Stewardship Program. Ph: (517) 335-3355. In addition, there is assistance for conservation projects through the Landowner Incentive Program. Ph: (517) 241-1153.
