Woodland Management for the Gopher Tortoise and Other Wildlife
American Forest Foundation has partnered with the University of Georgia Extension, Georgia Forestry Commission, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and U.S. Forest Service to help family forest owners in Georgia improve pine habitat for the gopher tortoise and other associated species in the non-listed range. Our work in Georgia is an extension of previous work in Mississippi, Louisiana an Alabama on the gopher tortoise in the listed range. Read more about work in the listed range.

A Guide for Family Forest Owners This comprehensive 96-page guide is written for family forest owners and foresters interested in improving pine habitat for the gopher tortoise and other wildlife species in Georgia. Filled with color photographs, it provides family forest owners with practical information on management strategies, prescribed burns, invasive species, regulatory assurances for landowners, conservation incentives, technical assistance, state programs, conservation easements and wildlife species that benefit from pine ecosystem management.

Forested Flyways has partnered with the American Bird Conservancy, Georgia Forestry Association, Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division, Georgia Forestry Commission, State and Private Forestry, U.S. Forest Service, and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to help family forest owners in Georgia improve pine habitat for birds and other species.
